BOPPJ: Giant Sea Wall Can Be Utilised for MRT, Wind Power and More
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Java North Coast Management Authority (Badan Otorita Pengelola Pantai Utara Jawa/BOPPJ) has disclosed that the Giant Sea Wall (GSW) can be utilised for toll road infrastructure, Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) as well as renewable energy power generation, including wind power plants (PLTB) and solar panels.
“There will be a toll road and MRT there,” said BOPPJ Head Didit Herdiawan Ashaf in Jakarta on Monday.
In addition to toll roads and MRT, the sea wall can also be used for wind power generation infrastructure and solar panels.
“On the inner side, the retention reservoir will be utilised for solar panels. That is roughly the concept. This is still one of the preliminary illustrations. There will also be a development area for future area development activities on the outer side once the wall is completed,” Didit said.
The coastal protection being developed is not conceived merely as the construction of a sea wall, but rather as an integrated system combining an offshore dyke, an onshore dyke, and nature-based solutions such as the strengthening of mangrove ecosystems.
Conceptually, the Java North Coast (Pantura) coastal protection system is planned to cover an area spanning approximately 535 kilometres across five provinces — Banten, DKI Jakarta, West Java, Central Java and East Java — encompassing five municipalities and 25 regencies.
