Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Deputy Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (Wamen KP), who also serves as Head of the North Java Coast Management Authority (BOPPJ), Didit Herdiawan Ashaf, stated that several considerations are involved in the construction of the giant sea wall, including community economic activities.

In a press conference following a limited meeting at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta on Tuesday, Didit explained that the government is delving into 15 segments for the giant sea wall construction along the northern coast (pantura) of Java Island, each with various issues.

“Particularly problems of tidal flooding, land subsidence, and there are economic activities. For example, farmers, fishermen, and fish farmers,” said Didit.

He explained that almost all points along the pantura already have community economic activities, including those in the marine and fisheries sector.

“This must be accommodated, and of course, there are many activities related to agriculture. This is what we must collaborate on or integrate,” Didit added.

On that occasion, he mentioned that the government is still exploring plans to build 575 kilometres along the pantura, divided into 15 segments.

The construction will be carried out thematically, planned to suit each segment. Regarding the 15 segments previously discussed, the government plans to divide them into sub-segments and sections that require further collaboration.

Several points that have been considered include Jakarta Bay and several locations in Central Java and West Java.

“We also reported earlier that on Java Island, particularly along the pantura, there are 15 segments, and we are delving into them from Serang to Gresik for the thematic areas, so further evaluation or assessment is needed,” Didit stated.
