Washington - The Board of Peace (BoP) is reportedly urging Hamas to promptly finalise the draft agreement for demilitarising the Gaza Strip no later than the end of this week, according to media reports.

The New York Times, citing sources on Monday, stated that the United States wants Hamas to surrender almost all of its weapons and hand over maps of the underground tunnel network in the Gaza Strip.

Subsequently, representatives from both parties will meet in Egypt on Tuesday to complete the demilitarisation agreement by the end of this week, although the meeting schedule could still change.

Last November, the United Nations Security Council adopted Resolution 2803, approving the implementation of the Gaza peace plan agreed upon by Hamas and Zionist Israel in October 2025.

In mid-January, US President Donald Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, announced the implementation of the second phase of the Gaza peace plan.

That phase includes the withdrawal of Zionist troops from the Gaza area, the deployment of the International Stabilisation Force (ISF), and the establishment of a new government structure for Gaza under the BoP led by Trump.

Trump announced the establishment of the BoP in January and invited around 50 countries to join. The BoP’s inaugural meeting took place in Washington on 19 January, attended by representatives from 20 countries.

However, as the transition towards the second phase of Trump’s Gaza peace plan progresses, clashes are still reported to be ongoing between Palestinian resistance groups and Zionist occupying forces in the Gaza Strip.
