Boosting the state's revenue

Boosting the state's revenue

From Bisnis Indonesia

According to a report in a mass-media publication, the
government, after studying the implementation of a tax amnesty in
a number of other countries, has decided against its inclusion in
the 2004 tax reform.

This mean that the Directorate General of Taxation must boost
the state's revenue from taxes by consistently enforcing the tax
law.

In a meeting with a number of Jakarta-based artists, the
Directorate General of Taxation has learned that it will still
likely increase tax receipts from the previous year's collection
of income tax and the tax on land and buildings.

If only the Directorate General of Taxation, while strictly
maintaining individual confidentiality, could disclose the tax
receipts of -- artists, lawyers, consultants, the corporate
directors of private companies, state enterprises or enterprises
owned by regional administrations, House members, members of the
People's Consultative Assembly and state officials -- the public
would be able to take part in monitoring state revenue from this
sector. More importantly, the public would be able to monitor the
performance of the tax apparatuses. Finally, the state's revenues
from tax receipts would increase.
