Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Pertamina is exploring ways to strengthen cooperation with the US oil and gas company EOG Resources as a follow-up to their existing collaboration, aimed at boosting national oil and natural gas (oil and gas) production.

The meeting between Pertamina’s Deputy Director Oki Muraza and EOG Resources’ leadership, including Joe Korenek (President of EOG International and Vice President International) and Jonathan Chung (Director of Business Development International), centred on opportunities for further development of the ongoing partnership, particularly in the development of non-conventional reservoirs in Indonesia.

In the discussions, both parties explored the potential for enhancing technological collaboration to improve reservoir productivity, including the application of multi-stage hydraulic fracturing technology, horizontal drilling, and fracture design optimisation, which are EOG Resources’ strengths.

Oki Muraza stated that this strengthening of cooperation is part of the company’s strategy to increase national oil and gas production.

“Pertamina is currently focused on developing existing fields while also promoting the development of non-conventional reservoirs. To that end, we continue to strengthen our capabilities, knowledge, and mastery of technology to support sustainable production optimisation,” said Oki, quoted on Friday (8/5/2026).

Furthermore, the meeting also addressed progress on policy support currently in process in Indonesia to accelerate the development of non-conventional oil and gas. This policy is expected to create a more attractive investment ecosystem and provide certainty for technology implementation in the field.

As a company with extensive experience in developing shale and tight reservoirs, EOG Resources is considered to have relevant capabilities to support Indonesia’s efforts to increase oil and gas production through a technology-based approach and operational efficiency.

This exploration of strengthened cooperation represents a strategic step to accelerate the implementation of cutting-edge technology in the development of non-conventional reservoirs, which are known to have a high level of complexity. Through this continued collaboration, Pertamina hopes to expedite the realisation of the potential of non-conventional oil and gas resources as a new pillar in increasing national production, while also strengthening Indonesia’s energy resilience in the future.
