Boosting Local Milk Production: It's Time for Young People to Take Up Dairy Farming
Professor Epi Taufik, a milk expert with the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), has stressed the importance of boosting milk and dairy product consumption to complement the nutritional intake of the Indonesian population. Enhanced education and lifestyle changes, including the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme which requires milk and dairy products, are expected to stimulate both milk consumption and local production.
Meanwhile, Andrew Saputro, Corporate Affairs Director of PT Frisian Flag Indonesia, affirmed the dairy industry’s commitment to increasing local production through partnerships with smallholder dairy farmers in the regions. This approach is implemented through area identification in Kendal and farmer mentoring to drive production, as well as facilitating easier access to capital.
Frisian Flag is also promoting the regeneration of dairy farmers and making dairy farming a more attractive venture through the establishment of the Young Farmers Academy.
