Boosting Indonesia's Prosperity: Pegadaian Distributes 1,000 Basic Food Packages to Online Taxi Drivers
Under its ‘Pegadaian Peduli’ Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) programme, PT Pegadaian (Persero) has distributed 1,000 basic food packages to online motorcycle taxi (ojol) drivers during the ‘1,000 Ojol UMKM Merdeka’ event. Held in conjunction with Indonesia’s 81st Independence Month, the event took place at the courtyard of the Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (Ministry of MSMEs) in South Jakarta on Saturday (29/08).
This activity serves as a tangible form of appreciation from the company for the significant contribution of online taxi drivers, who play a crucial role in the daily economic circulation of the community. Initiated through cross-sector collaboration between the Ministry of MSMEs, PT Pegadaian (Persero), State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN), the private sector, MSME players, and various online driver communities and associations, the event featured festivities typical of the independence month. Approximately 1,000 driver partners from various online transportation platforms gathered to enjoy entertainment, MSME culinary stalls, interactive games, doorprize draws, and the distribution of 1,000 food packages during the closing session.
The Director of Network & Operations of PT Pegadaian (Persero), Eka Pebriansyah, emphasised that online taxi drivers hold a vital role in supporting the sustainability of the micro-business ecosystem and urban mobility.
“In today’s dynamic era of digitalisation, online taxi drivers play an important role in our daily lives through the various services they offer, including connecting MSME players with consumers quickly and efficiently. Through the Pegadaian Peduli programme during this independence celebration, Pegadaian wishes to provide a boost of spirit and direct benefits for the drivers and their families at home,” said Eka.
Through the distribution of these 1,000 basic commodity assistance packages, it is hoped that the burden of daily expenses for driver partners can be eased, while simultaneously strengthening the bonds between community members and the initiators, including Pegadaian.
By actively participating in this collaborative movement, Pegadaian reinforces its position not only as a provider of trusted financial services but also as a consistent social actor in appreciating workers within the informal sector. With the spirit of ‘MengEMASkan Indonesia’ (Prospering Indonesia), Pegadaian continues to support the welfare of the wider community.
