Boosting Financial Inclusion, QRIS GoPay Merchants Can Now Accept Tips for Tour Guides

Jakarta, VIVA – GoPay has collaborated with the Indonesian Tour Guides Association (HPI) West Kalimantan branch to introduce a new innovation for the tourism sector. Now, tourists can give tips in the form of service fees to tour guides or individuals tasked with leading tourists during trips digitally through QRIS from the GoPay Merchant app. Head of GoPay Merchants, Haryanto Tanjo, stated that this collaboration responds to the increasing trend of QRIS usage in West Kalimantan, from retail and MSMEs to tourism. This aligns with 5.59 per cent (yoy) economic growth in the second quarter of 2025, as well as the growing comfort of local and international tourists in using non-cash payments, including for giving tips. Haryanto said that this collaboration is part of GoPay’s long-term commitment to supporting financial inclusion in line with Bank Indonesia’s mission. “Access to financial services must be inclusive for all, including daily workers like tour guides,” said Haryanto in his statement on Friday, 3 April 2026. “With QRIS from GoPay Merchant, they can more easily receive tips, so they directly feel the benefits of an inclusive digital payment ecosystem,” he added. Meanwhile, the Chairman of the HPI West Kalimantan Regional Board, Fahroolyadi, conveyed that this collaboration has brought real impacts for tour guides. Before using GoPay Merchant, payments were often received only after 24 hours, with a complicated disbursement process. “For me, who usually serves Malaysian tourists visiting West Kalimantan, this was certainly an obstacle,” said Fahroolyadi. “Since using QRIS from the GoPay Merchant app, all those obstacles have been resolved; the payment process now just involves scanning the QRIS, which is easier and the money is received immediately,” he stated. In addition to being convenient, the GoPay Merchant app also helps tour guides manage their income neatly and structured. The app registration process is also easy, so technology can enhance the professionalism of services to tourists.
