PT Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE) recorded oil and gas production of 956,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (MBOEPD) in the first quarter of 2026. Amid efforts to maintain national energy security, this Upstream Subholding of Pertamina continues to enhance exploration and drilling activities to ensure production sustainability while adding new oil and gas reserves.

This figure includes oil production of 494,000 barrels of oil per day (MBOPD) and gas production reaching 2.75 billion standard cubic feet per day (BSCFD).

Up to March 2026, the company has conducted exploitation drilling on 130 wells as part of efforts to maintain national oil and gas production levels. The company also implements strategies to optimise existing fields through workover activities on 261 wells and well services on 6,124 wells.

On the exploration side, the company drilled eight exploration wells by the end of the first quarter of 2026. Seismic survey activities are also ongoing, including 2D seismic along 0.09 kilometres and 3D seismic covering 914 square kilometres to support the discovery of new resources.

From these activities, PHE reported the discovery of 2C resources amounting to 6.7 million barrels of oil equivalent (MMBOE). Additionally, there is an addition of proven reserves (P1) of 3.4 MMBOE.

Corporate Secretary of Pertamina’s Upstream Subholding, Hermansyah Y Nasroen, stated that the achievements throughout the first three months of this year reflect the company’s consistency in implementing operational and exploration strategies. Both in terms of production and the addition of resources and reserves.

“We continue to promote the optimisation of existing fields while accelerating exploration activities to ensure long-term production sustainability,” said Hermansyah in an official statement quoted on Friday, 8 May 2026.

He added that the company will continue to maintain the momentum of performance until the end of the year through improved operational efficiency and the utilisation of technology. This step is accompanied by the use of technology to support the achievement of production targets and the discovery of new reserves.

PHE’s management revealed that various optimisation and exploration efforts are part of the company’s strategy to strengthen the foundation of national energy reserves in the future.

In addition to focusing on production and exploration, PHE also affirms its commitment to applying Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles in upstream oil and gas business management.
