Boosting Employment and Downstreaming, CA-EDC Project Reaches 66%
PT Chandra Asri Pacific Tbk (Chandra Asri Group), through its subsidiary PT Chandra Asri Alkali (CAA), has announced that the construction of the Chlor-Alkali and Ethylene Dichloride (CA-EDC) Plant has reached 66% progress. Chandra Asri Group’s Director of Human Resources and Corporate Affairs, Suryandi, stated that this milestone marks the project’s entry into the stage of developing major logistics infrastructure as part of preparations for operating this world-class facility. Currently, the project construction is entering the phase of building the jetty and storage tanks, which will support the smooth distribution, storage, and management of logistics for Chlor-Alkali and Ethylene Dichloride (EDC) products. This integrated infrastructure is also expected to strengthen the connectivity of the national and regional chemical industry supply chain. “The construction of the CA-EDC Plant is now entering the phase of developing major logistics infrastructure, which will be an important part in supporting the distribution and management of the strategic chemical supply chain. We view the development of integrated infrastructure as an essential element in building a more efficient, competitive, and viable national chemical industry ecosystem,” Suryandi said, quoted from his statement on Sunday, 10 April 2026. He explained that during the construction phase, the project has involved around 3,000 workers and is projected to create around 250 new jobs when it begins full operation in the first quarter of 2027. As part of its commitment to inclusive growth, Chandra Asri Group has also involved local SMEs in various supply chain and project operational needs. This involvement is expected to strengthen the industrial ecosystem while driving economic growth in the areas around the Company’s operational regions. The Indonesian government has also designated the CA-EDC Plant as a Strategic National Project (PSN) because it is considered to play an important role in strengthening the national chemical industry, supporting downstreaming, and creating sustainable economic growth. The project investment is supported by Chandra Asri Group’s more than 32 years of experience as the backbone of the national petrochemical industry, with a commitment to continue creating value for all stakeholders and delivering economic impacts for Indonesia. The CA-EDC Plant is designed to meet the growing domestic needs for strategic basic chemicals. In the initial operational phase, the facility is targeted to have a production capacity of 827,000 tonnes of caustic soda and 500,000 tonnes of EDC per year.
