Fire and thick smoke were visible around Mehrabad International Airport in Tehran, Iran, amid the US-Israel confrontation with Iran in the early hours of Saturday 7 March 2026 local time. Mehrabad International Airport is one of Tehran’s two airports. Flames and smoke plumes were seen rising high. Israel said it had carried out a ‘large-scale’ attack on targets in Tehran. Iran’s state television reported explosions in the eastern and western parts of Tehran. ‘Today Iran will be hit very hard!’ US President Donald Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform. ‘The areas and groups of people that had not previously been considered as targets, because of Iran’s bad behaviour, are being seriously considered for destruction and death.’
