Boom! Iran Fires Four Ballistic Missiles at US Aircraft Carrier USS Abraham Lincoln
Iran’s military, the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC), attacked the US aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln in the Gulf on Sunday. This came after US and Israeli strikes killed the nation’s supreme leader on Saturday local time.
“The US Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier was struck by four ballistic missiles,” the Revolutionary Guards said in a statement carried by local media and cited by AFP on Monday 2 March 2026.
“Land and sea will increasingly become the graves of terrorist aggressors,” it added.
However, the Pentagon denied Iran’s claim that it had attacked the USS Abraham Lincoln with ballistic missiles in the Gulf. It stated the missiles failed to hit their target.
“Lincoln was not struck. The missiles that were launched did not even come close to the target,” said US Central Command on X.
Nevertheless, other reports indicated that three US military personnel have been killed and five others severely wounded in the conflict with Iran. However, there are no clear details of how or where the casualties occurred.
“Three US military personnel have been killed in combat and five others injured severely as part of Operation Epic Fury. Several others suffered minor wounds from shrapnel and concussion, and are in the process of returning to duty,” said US Central Command (CENTCOM) in a statement.
“Major combat operations continue and our response efforts are ongoing. The situation is dynamic, so to honour the families, we will withhold additional information, including the identity of our fallen service members, until 24 hours after next of kin have been notified,” it added.
On the other hand, US President Donald Trump boasted that operations in the Middle East have been successful. He even announced that nine Iranian naval vessels have been sunk and made no mention of US military deaths.
He told Fox News that 48 Iranian leaders have been killed “in one strike”. He also told The Atlantic that he is ready to open negotiations but “cannot say” when.
“The current situation is developing very positively, very positively,” he said in another interview with CNBC International.
“We have destroyed and sunk 9 Iranian Naval Vessels, some of which are relatively large and significant,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social account.
“The nation’s naval headquarters, largely destroyed,” he said again.
Reckless War
Meanwhile, the US Congress has reacted to Trump’s actions. Democratic leader in the House of Representatives Hakeem Jeffries posted that he is “heartbroken” over the casualties.
“No more American heroes need to die because of reckless decisions to go to war. Congress must act this week to restrain this president,” said Jeffries.
