Book Tells the Story of KH Helmi Abdul Mubin: The Minister of Religious Affairs Praises Him as an Inspiration for Islamic Boarding Schools as Beacons of Knowledge

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — Although he passed away in 2025, the life story of the founder of the Ummul Quro Islamic boarding school in Leuwiliang, Bogor, KH Helmi Abdul Mubin, continues to resonate within the community.

His life, marked by numerous challenges, never diminished his spirit for learning and preaching. Amidst the hardships, he always found a path leading to knowledge and blessings.

The wisdom he gained from studying at various educational institutions, both domestically and abroad, became the foundation for his efforts in the fields of da’wah (Islamic preaching) and education.

His da’wah extended beyond the confines of a single pulpit. Despite the limitations, he successfully established a pesantren, a feat that seemed almost impossible given his life’s journey.

However, Allah has His own ways. Amidst the difficulties he faced, doors of opportunity gradually opened, allowing KH Helmi to establish and develop the Ummul Quro pesantren.

Since its establishment in 1993 until his death, many have appreciated the struggles of this scholar, known as the “weaver of civilization.”

KH Helmi’s life story was immortalized by KH Saiful Falah, who now leads the Ummul Quro Islamic boarding school, continuing the legacy of the deceased.

Unlike typical biographies, the story of the alumnus of Pondok Modern Darussalam Gontor and the Islamic University of Medina is presented in a flowing and accessible narrative style.

The book, titled Mudiruna, is written from a first-person perspective, allowing readers to feel as if they are hearing the story directly from the scholar.

“I ventured out to seek knowledge. I had seen enough of the immense burdens my father carried. As a man, it was not right for me to add to those burdens. I had to change things. I had to leave my hometown. Farewell, island of salt,” reads one of the quotes in the book.
