Book on traditional cures to be published
DENPASAR (Antara): A new book focusing on Balinese traditional
medical treatments will be jointly published by an American,
Kilburn Roby, and the Paramasastra Foundation.
The book, which will be published in English, will be sold not
only in Indonesia but also overseas, according to IDG Windhu
Sancayaan, an activist with the foundation which is a non-
governmental organization that campaigns to empower Balinese
language and culture.
Under the plan, Sidemen village in Karangasem will be one of
the subjects of study. Many ancient sources provide information
about traditional medical practices in Bali but, the public were
not willing to openly avail of them.
Windhu said that if China and Taiwan were famous for their
traditional remedies, Bali could also do the same.
Indonesia still lags behind as regards traditional medicines
compared to China, Japan, Taiwan and South Korea and has also
been slow to take advantage of its rich flora as the raw material
for such medicines.
