Book on 'Kenduri Nasional'
JAKARTA (JP): City Governor Surjadi Soedirdja has hosted the
launching of a book documenting activities recorded during the
Kenduri Nasional gathering in August of last year at the National
Monument (Monas) square.
At the launching ceremony, held at the Municipality Office
near the park last week, the governor handed over the books to
French Ambassador Thierry Martin de Beauce and Cacuk Sudarijanto,
who represented the National Committee for Independence Day.
France played an active role in supplying the fireworks for
the display during the gathering, which was part of various mega
events organized by the National Committee for last year's 50th
anniversary commemoration of Indonesia's Independence Day. Cacuk
was an executive member of the committee.
The hard-cover book, entitled Kenduri Nasional 1995, Jakarta
Merah Putih (Jakarta Red & White), contains 90 color and
monocolor pictures, illustrating the activities at the gathering
attended by more than one million people, events celebrating the
golden Independence Day held in Jakarta and an informative
history of the Monas national monument and the Taman Medan
Merdeka (Liberty Square).
"In the near future, another book about the capital at night
will be issued," Surjadi said.
The book was published by the Jakarta Promotion Board, or
JAKPROM, a privately-sponsored foundation under the supervision
of the city municipality.
"The books will be available at bookstores next week priced Rp
75,000 each," Ita Munaf said. (bsr)
