Book Discussion: Deputy National Police Chief Reveals Terrorism Is Now Infiltrating Through Digital Space
Deputy National Police Chief Komjen Dedi Prasetyo revealed changes in the pattern of terrorism threats in the digital era. Security threats today no longer always appear in forms that are easy to recognise, but infiltrate subtly through digital spaces and cultural visuals.
He delivered this at a book discussion of ‘Gamifikasi Kekerasan dalam Teror Modern di Era Digital’ (Gamification of Violence in Modern Terror in the Digital Era), authored by Komjen Dedi Prasetyo together with BNPT Director General (Ret) Eddy Hartono and Kadensus 88 AT Polri Irjen Sentot Prasetyo, at the technical working meeting (Rekrnis) of Densus 88 Antiteror Polri at the Bidakara Hotel, South Jakarta, on Tuesday 20 May 2026.
Dedi explained that modern extremism threats are more fluid and not always bound to formal organisational structures. These threats grow through social interaction in cyberspace and exposure to information that repeats and shapes how people think.
“Threats today move faster than the old handling patterns. Therefore, we need to build the ability to read early signs, strengthen prevention, and enhance community resilience,” said Komjen Dedi in his remarks.
He stressed that changing patterns must be followed by changes in mindset and handling strategies. According to him, digital literacy, child protection, and strengthening the role of family and school become the main bulwarks in long-term prevention strategies.
“This book not only talks about threats, but also offers a way to view security as a shared responsibility,” Dedi said.
Dedi noted that future security cannot rely solely on the police. Cross-sector collaboration is needed, from education to providers of digital platforms to read signs of threats before they become real.
“The state should not only be present when the threat has grown. Prevention must come earlier, while law enforcement is the last step taken in a measured manner,” he asserted.
The book Gamifikasi Kekerasan dalam Teror Modern di Era Digital dissects how technology and the digital space can shape mindsets and create new security risks. Through this book, Polri offers a new perspective on reading threats before they become real in society.
He also emphasised that Indonesia’s safety is built through the ability to understand changes, strengthen community resilience, and provide prevention before threats develop. “Because in the digital era, the most dangerous threats are not only the visible ones but those that grow unconsciously,” he added.
The book discussion also featured respondents from various disciplines, including Dr. Zora Arfina Sukabdi, Prof. Harkristuti Harkrisnowo, Dra. Adityana Kasandra Putranto, and Dr. Ismail Fahmi.
On the same occasion, the authors also received Intellectual Property Rights (HKI) certificates from the Directorate General of Intellectual Property of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia. The certificate recognises Polri’s contribution to the development of literature related to extremism prevention in the digital era.
