Bontang's 2026 Economic Census Verification Reaches 78.51 Percent, Second Highest in East Kalimantan
The implementation of the 2026 Economic Census (SE2026) in Bontang City has shown positive results. Based on preliminary data collection, 78.51 percent of businesses and households have been verified, placing Bontang as the region with the second-highest verification achievement in East Kalimantan.
This achievement was announced during the Coordination and Evaluation Meeting for the 2026 Economic Census of Bontang City, held on Wednesday (12/08/2026) at the Pendopo of the Bontang Mayor’s Official Residence.
The Assistant for Government and People’s Welfare, Dasuki, attended and opened the event. In his remarks, Dasuki expressed the Bontang City Government’s appreciation to the Bontang Central Statistics Agency (BPS) and all SE2026 officers who have worked to ensure the census runs smoothly.
He stressed that SE2026 is a highly strategic national agenda conducted once every ten years. Therefore, the census should not be viewed merely as routine data collection, but as a momentum to update the economic picture of Bontang City, including the development of digital-based businesses, the creative economy, and the green and blue economies.
According to him, the data produced by SE2026 is of significant importance for Bontang, which is building itself as an advanced, prosperous, and sustainable industrial and service city as a partner region of IKN. Development planning, he said, must be supported by accurate, up-to-date, and accountable data.
Meanwhile, based on preliminary data collection results, the initial prelist recorded 85,507 entries. After field data collection and the discovery of new targets, this number increased to 113,122, with a total of 88,813 businesses verified or recorded.
However, the data collection process is not yet fully complete. There remain 24.33 percent of businesses and 21.72 percent of households that have not been recorded. This condition is one of the concerns in the evaluation of SE2026 implementation so that all data collection targets can be reached.
Dasuki also invited all regional apparatus, sub-districts, urban villages, and stakeholders to provide full support to BPS. This is necessary to ensure that no business unit targeted for data collection is missed, no area remains unreached, and various obstacles in the field can be promptly coordinated and resolved.
He emphasised the importance of data quality and validity. According to him, complete but inaccurate data will not produce good policies. Therefore, business actors in Bontang City are also expected to welcome census officers and provide information according to the actual conditions of their businesses.
Furthermore, the results of SE2026 are expected not to remain merely statistical documents, but to be utilised as a basis for formulating development programmes, economic empowerment, UMKM development, investment enhancement, strengthening the local economy, and evaluating various programmes that have been implemented.
“Bontang in the future must become a city that not only grows, but grows with a clear direction. And that direction must be built based on data,” was the message from the Mayor conveyed through Assistant I Dasuki.
Through this coordination and evaluation meeting, the Bontang City Government together with BPS is expected to continue strengthening synergy and accelerating the completion of SE2026 data collection. Thus, the data produced can serve as a strong foundation for realising the development of Bontang City as an advanced, prosperous, sustainable, and increasingly competitive partner region of IKN.
