Bontang Prepares Correctional Centre Post to Strengthen Guidance for Probationers

The Bontang City Government, together with the East Kalimantan Regional Office of the Directorate General of Corrections (Ditjenpas), is preparing a Correctional Centre Post (Pos Bapas) as a measure to expand guidance and support services for correctional clients in Bontang City. Bontang Mayor Neni Moerniaeni stated that the presence of the Pos Bapas is expected to bring correctional services closer to the community while strengthening synergy between the local government and correctional agencies in supporting the social reintegration process for correctional clients. “We hope the presence of the Pos Bapas will increase the effectiveness of community guidance while strengthening inter-agency coordination,” she said on Tuesday, 4 August 2026. According to Neni, this collaboration is part of an effort to build a more humane correctional system while helping to reduce the risk of repeat offences. “This Pos Bapas is tangible proof that coordination and synergy between the local government and its internal agencies are well established,” she said. Meanwhile, Head of the East Kalimantan Regional Office of the Directorate General of Corrections, Endang Lintang Hardiman, said the provision of the Pos Bapas is supported through a land grant and building loan from the Bontang City Government. “The support of the land grant and building loan from the Bontang City Government represents a form of real collaboration to strengthen correctional functions and provide optimal legal services to the community,” he said. According to Endang, the existence of the Pos Bapas will bring supervision and guidance services closer to correctional clients in the Bontang City area. With closer access to services, the guidance process is expected to be more effective and reach those in need. He said the facility is also expected to support the social reintegration process through independence coaching and skills development for assisted residents. This effort is part of sustainable coaching so that correctional clients can be accepted back into the community and lead more productive lives.
