Bontang Prepares Correctional Centre Post to Strengthen Guidance for Probationers

The Bontang municipal government, together with the East Kalimantan Regional Office of the Directorate General of Corrections (Ditjenpas), is preparing a Probation Office (Bapas) post as a step to broaden guidance and assistance services for corrections clients in Bontang.

Bontang Mayor Neni Moerniaeni said the presence of the Bapas post is expected to bring corrections services closer to the community whilst strengthening synergy between the local government and corrections agencies in supporting the social reintegration process for corrections clients.

“We hope the presence of the Bapas post will improve the effectiveness of community guidance whilst strengthening inter-agency coordination,” she said on Tuesday, 4 August 2026.

According to Neni, this cooperation forms part of efforts to build a more humane corrections system and help reduce the risk of repeat offending.

“This Bapas post is tangible proof that coordination and synergy between the local government and the agencies involved are working well,” she said.

Meanwhile, the Head of the East Kalimantan Ditjenpas Regional Office, Endang Lintang Hardiman, said the provision of the Bapas post is supported through a land grant and a building loan from the Bontang municipal government.

“The support in the form of a land grant and building loan from the Bontang municipal government is a real collaboration to strengthen the corrections function and provide optimal legal services to the community,” he said.

According to Endang, the presence of the Bapas post will bring supervision and guidance services closer to corrections clients in the Bontang area. With more accessible services, the guidance process is expected to run more effectively and reach those members of the public who need it.

He said the facility is also expected to support the social reintegration process through self-reliance coaching and skills development for assisted residents. These efforts form part of ongoing rehabilitation so that corrections clients can be accepted back into their communities and lead more productive lives.
