Bonnie Triyana Launches Bung Karno Month 2026 in Banten to Promote Sukarno's Teachings

Museum Multatuli, in collaboration with the Aspiration Program of DPR Commission X member Bonnie Triyana, will host Bung Karno Month 2026 throughout next June. A range of activities are planned, including photo exhibitions, letters and comics of Bung Karno, the Mustikarasa Culinary Festival, discussions on Bung Karno’s ideas, and the Istigasah Haul Bung Karno commemoration. DPR Commission X member Bonnie Triyana stated that Museum Multatuli was chosen as the main venue due to its established role as a public space connecting cultural and historical enthusiasts and youth. ‘Since its establishment in 2018, Museum Multatuli has become a meeting point for cultural activists and social activities in Rangkasbitung. The museum not only serves as a public space to learn about colonial history but also a venue for exchanging ideas and youth creativity. Therefore, Bung Karno Month is well-suited to be held at Museum Multatuli,’ Bonnie said in a statement on Sunday, 31 May 2026. Meanwhile, the Istigasah Haul Bung Karno event will take place in Menes, Pandeglang Regency. ‘The Haul Bung Karno event will be held in Menes, Pandeglang, as Menes has long been known as Banten’s spiritual centre,’ she added. Bonnie explained that Bung Karno has a strong historical footprint in Banten, particularly in Lebak Regency. She noted that Bung Karno visited Lebak at least three times: in 1943 to Bayah, in 1951 to assess community conditions, and in 1957 when delivering a National Front speech at Rangkasbitung’s town square. Bonnie assessed that many of Bung Karno’s ideas remain relevant today, especially in addressing contemporary geopolitical challenges. ‘Many of Bung Karno’s teachings remain relevant today. Observe how indecisive the government is in handling current geopolitical dynamics. Bung Karno taught steadfastness in defending the independence of colonised nations, as demonstrated in the Asian-African Movement. This is just one example of his political legacy,’ she said. Bonnie hopes Bung Karno Month will serve as a platform for the public, especially the youth, to better understand the proclamator’s ideas and exemplary conduct.
