Bonit/Sulistyo to meet S. African pair in final

JAKARTA (JP): Indonesia's veterans Bonit Wiryawan and Sulistyo Wibowo saved face for the country in the Men's Indonesian Fertilizer Future 3 at Kemayoran Tennis Center after they reached the men's doubles final.

Bonit and Sulityo, former members of the Davis Cup and Asian Games teams, defeated second seed Timur Ganiev and Vadim Kutsenko of Uzbekistan 7-6 (7-5), 4-6, 6-4 in the US$15,000 tournament on Saturday.

They will face the South African double of Rik De Voest and Marcel Du Courdray in Sunday's final. De Voest and Du Courdray overcame Indonesia's second best duo of Febi Widhiyanto and Hendri Susilo Pramono 6-4, 6-3.

In the men's singles, Indonesia's sole player, Suhendra Dinata, finally bowed out of the tournament after losing to South African Willem Peter Meyer 6-3, 6-3.

Third seed Meyer will challenge second seed Vadim Kutsenko of Uzbekistan, who upset top seed Hideki Kaneko of Japan 6-1, 6-0.

At the same venue, Romana Tedjakusuma, Liza Andriyani and Wukirasih Sawondari ensured their tickets to the 20th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Brunei next month after qualifying in the four-day national selections.

Romana was unbeatable in seven matches, trailed by Liza, who won six matches, and Sawondari, who won five matches.

The three players will join world ranked, in the 190s, Wynne Prakusya, who automatically gets a place in the team due to her high ranking.(yan)
