Boni Hargens Fully Supports Dasco's Statement on National Unity
Jakarta, VIVA – Senior Political Analyst Boni Hargens fully supports the statements and reiteration by Deputy Speaker of the DPR Sufmi Dasco Ahmad regarding President Prabowo Subianto’s need for one thing from all elements of the nation, including civil society: national unity.
‘The spirit of unity championed by Mr Sufmi Dasco Ahmad is not merely a domestic requirement; it is a fundamental force needed by the Indonesian nation today in the face of mounting global pressure and increasing uncertainty,’ Boni Hargens told reporters on Friday, 6 March 2026.
Boni highlighted two major geopolitical crises currently shaking the world order: the ongoing war in the Middle East and the Russia-Ukraine conflict, which has yet to find a resolution.
According to Boni, these crises do not only affect the countries directly involved but also reverberate across the world, including Indonesia, through channels such as rising commodity prices, disruptions to global supply chains, currency fluctuations, and instability in international financial markets.
‘The Middle East conflict, which continues to flare in the region, directly affects global energy prices and threatens the economic stability of developing countries including Indonesia. The unresolved Russia-Ukraine war disrupts global food and energy supplies, fuels global inflation, and compels every country to strengthen its national resilience,’ he explained.
Boni stressed that the Prabowo Subianto administration requires real support from civil society to face the complex challenges and to realise the administration’s agendas designed to create the common good for all Indonesians.
‘This support does not mean passive or blind compliance with existing policies; rather, it involves active and responsible participation in the process of nation-building and governance,’ he said.
Boni outlined three key programmes that require backing: food security, infrastructure development, and enhancing public services in education and health.
The self-sufficiency in food programme, which is a priority for President Prabowo, requires the support of society from upstream to downstream, from farmers, agribusiness players, to wise consumers.
