Boni Hargens Confident TNI-Polri Have Effective Strategy to Maintain Security Tomorrow

Political and intelligence analyst Boni Hargens has assessed that the National Police and other law enforcement agencies are ensuring that public security and order (kamtibmas) remain conducive and under control, amid the circulation of various rumours regarding actions planned for Thursday, 27 August 2026.

Boni considers the rumours of action to be part of the narrative dynamics in the contemporary public sphere. Such rumours, he said, should not automatically be interpreted as a real threat, but they still require a proportional and measured response from all parties.

“The National Police, together with the TNI and BIN, certainly already have an effective collaborative strategy to keep conditions safe in any chaotic situation that may occur. Moreover, I have great confidence in the performance of the National Police Chief, who has proven successful in maintaining public security and order through the various upheavals that have occurred since 2024,” Boni said in a written statement on Wednesday, 26 August 2026.

Boni stressed that the national security apparatus is believed to have thorough preparedness and collaborative strategies in place to face various security scenarios. Nevertheless, he emphasised that vigilance must not slacken even when the situation appears under control.

Boni introduced an analytical security framework known as the Black Swan Theory. This theory in security studies emphasises that there is always the possibility of unexpected events occurring, even when there is no precedent or prior indication.

He explained that unpredictable events with major impacts always have a chance of occurring. Security logic must always account for this possibility, even when the situation appears completely normal and under control.

“The success in maintaining security must not make the apparatus complacent. Worst-case scenario planning and adaptive response are key in facing every moment of large-scale demonstration,” he said.

On the other hand, Boni called on all parties, including the public, the media, and policymakers, to respond to this issue proportionally and neither to underestimate the threat nor to aggravate the atmosphere with unfounded panic.

“Of course we do not hope for bad things to happen, but security logic must always see the possibility of a black swan emerging in every threat opportunity,” he said.
