Bondowoso proposes temporary opening of Prosiwangi toll road to prevent Pantura route congestion

The Bondowoso Regency Government in East Java has submitted a request for the temporary opening of access to the Prosiwangi Toll Road (Probolinggo-Situbondo-Banyuwangi) to reduce congestion and vehicle queues on the Pantura route in Probolinggo and Situbondo. Bondowoso Regent Abd Hamid Wahid stated that he had sent a letter to the Ministry of Public Works regarding the proposal, prompted by ongoing culvert repair works on the Pantura or national road in Paiton District, Probolinggo, and on the Pantura road in Banyuglugur District, Situbondo. “Therefore, we are requesting the temporary opening of access to the Prosiwangi Toll Road as an alternative route during the construction period,” he said in a statement in Bondowoso on Friday. According to Ra Hamid, as he is known, the temporary opening of the Prosiwangi toll access is deemed necessary as part of a traffic management and engineering strategy to maintain road service levels, ensure smooth logistics distribution, reduce potential queues and travel delays. “It is also to improve safety aspects for road users and construction workers by separating traffic flow from the work zone, and to minimise the impact of congestion caused by lane narrowing or partial closures at the work site,” he added. The proposal for the temporary opening of the Prosiwangi Toll Road by Bondowoso Regent Abd Hamid Wahid was also addressed to the Ministry of Transportation, the Governor of East Java, and the President Director of PT Jasa Marga. According to information gathered, the culvert repair work on the Pantura route in Kalianget Village, Banyuglugur District, commenced on 6 July 2026, with a one-way alternating traffic system in place until the work is expected to be completed by the end of August 2026.
