Bombing suspect wrongly identified

SURINAME: An Indonesian man who briefly lived in Suriname was not
a suspect in the Bali bombings, though he has a similar name to a
man convicted in the attack, the Indonesian Embassy said.

The embassy issued the statement on Monday, saying it has no
record of the convict, Ali Imron, visiting the South American
country.

Suriname's defense minister, Ronald Assen, had reported last
week that Imron lived in the country for about a year until
January 2002, months before the bombings that killed 202 people
on Oct. 12, 2002. That Imron is serving a life term in prison.

But the Indonesian Embassy said the man who visited Suriname
was actually Ali Imron al-Fattah, 26, who it said taught at a
Muslim school in the country and is now again living in
Indonesia.

"We have found no record of another Ali Imron who had been in
Suriname," embassy official Zet Mirzal Zaimuddin said.

Surinamese officials declined to comment. -- AP
