Police have arrested a man with the initials MY (34) for sending a bomb threat to SDN Srengseng Sawah 15 Pagi, a state primary school in Jagakarsa, South Jakarta. The perpetrator was arrested at his residence, located not far from the school.
“Correct, he was arrested at his residence, not far from the school,” said Ipda Alpino De Tech, Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit at the South Jakarta Metro Police, to reporters at the South Jakarta Metro Police headquarters on Monday.
MY was arrested in less than 24 hours, precisely at 12.20 Western Indonesia Time this afternoon in Gang Kidan, Kampung Srengseng Sawah, Jagakarsa, South Jakarta. The suspect is currently undergoing examination at the South Jakarta Metro Police headquarters.
“Currently, we are still conducting an examination and compiling the official examination report for the suspected perpetrator,” he stated. The perpetrator currently remains a witness. “As of now, he is still a witness; we will provide further updates at the next opportunity,” he added.
Police revealed another fact about MY, disclosing that he is the parent of a pupil at the school. “After the perpetrator was detained, it turned out that his child also attends the school,” said Kombes Iman Imannudin, Director of Criminal Investigation at the Metro Jaya Regional Police, to reporters on Monday.
Iman stated that the perpetrator had picked up his child after sending the threatening message. The pupils at the primary school were dismissed and sent home following the bomb threat. “This morning, the individual in question also picked up his child from school after being notified about the bomb threat,” he added.
Based on preliminary investigations, the perpetrator claimed he was acting on a whim when he sent the threat. Police are still investigating this claim. The threat was sent while pupils were holding their morning assembly. After a sweep by the Gegana Bomb Squad and the Densus 88 Anti-terror unit, no explosive materials were found at the location.
