Bomb Threat Maker Targeting South Jakarta Primary School Named Suspect

Police have named a 34-year-old man with the initials MY as a suspect for sending a bomb threat to SDN Srengseng Sawah 15 Pagi, a state primary school in Jagakarsa, South Jakarta. The head of the South Jakarta Metro Police Criminal Investigation Unit, AKBP Iskandarsyah, confirmed the suspect has been charged under Article 601 of the Criminal Code concerning terror threats. “He has been named a suspect. We have two pieces of evidence,” Iskandarsyah said on Tuesday. Preliminary investigations revealed that MY carried out the act as a prank, though the motive is still being investigated further. Dirkrimum Polda Metro Jaya, Kombes Iman Imannudin, disclosed that the suspect had previously sent a similar bomb threat message to the head of his local neighbourhood association. The threat against the school occurred on Monday, coinciding with the first day of the school’s environmental orientation programme. Jagakarsa Police Chief Kompol Nurma Dewi confirmed that the orientation activities were immediately disbanded following the threat. She added that the situation was declared safe after a four-hour sweep conducted by the Gegana bomb squad, the Densus 88 counter-terrorism unit, the National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT), and K-9 sniffer dogs.
