Bomb Threat Hoaxer at South Jakarta Primary School Arrested Within 24 Hours
A man with the initials MY, aged 34, has been arrested by police after sending a bomb threat to SDN Srengseng Sawah 15 Pagi, a state primary school in Jagakarsa, South Jakarta. The suspect was apprehended at his home, located not far from the school.
Video footage shows the Director of General Criminal Investigation at Polda Metro Jaya, Senior Commissioner Iman Imanuddin, and the Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit at South Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Adjunct Senior Commissioner Mohammad Iskandarsyah, arriving at the suspect’s residence. The officers interrogated MY, who then showed them the mobile phone used as evidence in the case.
The suspect displayed the contents of the threatening WhatsApp message to the police. The message read: "GOOD MORNING AND PEACE BE UPON YOU, PLEASE BE PREPARED WITHIN MINUTES THE SDN 15 PAGI SCHOOL WILL EXPLODE AND WE HAVE PREPARED 11 LOCATIONS…!!!"
The Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit at South Jakarta Metropolitan Police, First Inspector Alpino De Tech, stated that MY was arrested in less than 24 hours, specifically at 12:20 Western Indonesian Time in Gang Kidan, Kampung Srengseng Sawah, Jagakarsa, South Jakarta.
"The suspected perpetrator was secured at 12:20 WIB in Gang Kidan, Kampung Srengseng Sawah, Srengseng Sawah Village, Jagakarsa District, South Jakarta. That is correct, he was arrested at his residence, not far from the school," First Inspector Alpino told reporters at the South Jakarta Metropolitan Police headquarters on Monday (13/7/2026).
He added that the suspect is currently undergoing examination at the South Jakarta Metropolitan Police headquarters and is still being treated as a witness. "We are currently still conducting an examination and compiling an official report of questioning for the suspected perpetrator. For now, he remains a witness; we will provide further updates at a later opportunity," he said.
Police revealed the suspect’s motive for sending the bomb threat to SDN Srengseng Sawah 15 Pagi. The suspect claimed he acted out of mischief. "The preliminary motive obtained from the suspect’s statement is that he did it purely for fun," said Senior Commissioner Iman Imanuddin.
However, the police are continuing to investigate the suspect’s claims. Officers are working with the Densus 88 Anti-terror unit to conduct a deeper probe, including into the suspect’s background. "We are continuing to investigate, and investigators are coordinating with Densus 88 Anti-terror," he stated.
