Bomb terrorizes public

Bomb terrorizes public

It was sad to see innocent people suffering in the aftermath of the bomb blast at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Jakarta, on Sunday morning.

Those who placed the bomb must be cowardly and irresponsible, with no compassion. As in other bombings, the victims were those who knew nothing of the bombers' resentment or anger.

This is terror, meant to create chaos and panic, and to scare the public. The terrorists also wanted to publicly proclaim their existence and seek popularity.

The bomb was also meant to scare the world community because it was detonated at an international airport.

However, we suggest that the public not be scared by the blast. Those who have planned to travel by plane should go ahead with their plans. Security must be tightened up after the blast, and people must be more alert.

People are required to report to the police or other security officers upon seeing strange objects, such as a bag left at a public place. We must admit that people had apparently thought security was good, yet we all must be extra-careful after the deadly Bali bombings.

Terrorism will always be around in its various forms. Parties or individuals who are dissatisfied with the current system, claiming democracy can no longer handle their aspirations, are usually interested in this (terrorism).
