Bomb not behind building collapse

CIREBON, West Java: A bomb did not cause of the collapse of the Bank Tabungan Negara (BTN) building in the West Java town of Cirebon, police say.

"Based on the results of investigations at the scene by police detectives, there is no evidence of a group of people having used an explosive device," Cirebon District Police Chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Krido Sudibyo said on Tuesday.

The building, on Jl. Wahidin, collapsed when Muslims were preparing for Idul Fitri prayers on Sunday night. No casualties were reported. A bomb was initially suspected as the cause of the incident.

However, Krido said no explosive device had been found in the wreckage of the destroyed building, but added that a "human error" in its construction could be the cause of the collapse.

"Natural factors" could also be blamed, he said. --Antara
