Bomb hoax delays Cathay flight

JAKARTA (JP): A Cathay Pacific flight to Hong Kong yesterday morning was delayed one hour after police received a phone call claiming a bomb was planted onboard.

Rosa, a Cathay employee working at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, told The Jakarta Post the airplane should have left at 9 a.m.

"The flight left the airport one hour behind the schedule," she said, refusing to comment further.

Jakarta Metropolitan Police Chief Maj. Gen. Hamami Nata said the bomb squad had been dispatched shortly after police received the threat.

"Nothing was found inside the plane. The threat was a hoax," Hamami said.

The two-star general said police had no idea who had made the threat.

"But we have act as quickly as possible, before the threat comes true," he said. (bsr)
