An explosive device detonated in the Tyre region of southern Lebanon, near the command sector of the Israeli Army’s 36th Division. The incident killed a senior sergeant and wounded seven other soldiers, including the Deputy Division Commander, who holds the rank of colonel, and a battalion commander from the 556th Reserve Brigade, who holds the rank of lieutenant colonel.

Israeli television channel Channel Kan reported on Thursday local time that the incident occurred amid ongoing military operations in the area.

According to operational details, the event took place on Wednesday around 5:00 p.m. local time. At that time, a combat team from the headquarters element of the Deputy Commander of the 36th Division, together with personnel from the Givati Brigade, was conducting a foot patrol in the Litani area near the town of Taybeh. An improvised explosive device (IED) then detonated, striking the troops.

As a result of the explosion, a senior sergeant from a reserve company was reported killed at the scene, while seven other personnel sustained injuries. The Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) stated that the investigation into this incident is ongoing.

Among the wounded were the Deputy Commander of the 36th Division (colonel), a reserve battalion commander in the 556th Brigade (lieutenant colonel), and a reserve soldier.

The Israeli television channel added that this deadly incident occurred just hours after five other soldiers were wounded in a separate attack. That attack used two explosive-laden drones which struck Israeli forces and the evacuation unit that arrived afterwards. One soldier was reported to be in critical condition following the successive strikes.
