The bomb disposal team (Jibom) together with the Forensic Laboratory Team (Labfor) of the East Java Regional Police (Polda Jatim) conducted a crime scene investigation (TKP) of the explosion that occurred at Masjid Raya Pesona in Pesona Raya Regency residential area in Patrang Village, Jember Regency.

The Jibom team together with the Labfor team conducted the crime scene investigation under tight security by the East Java Regional Police’s Mobile Brigade (Brimob) from Tuesday (17 March) in the early morning, with the search still ongoing until 08:30 WIB.

“The crime scene investigation is still ongoing and for details later the East Java Regional Police will provide the information,” said Head of Criminal Investigation at Jember Police Station AKP Angga Riatma at Pesona Raya Regency residential area in Jember.

On-site observations showed that the East Java Regional Police team conducted a crime scene investigation at the mosque explosion location around the male ablution area, with several corners examined carefully and meticulously. Various items in the vicinity of the explosion were inspected, and officers also examined damage from the blast including the mosque’s ceiling, ventilation fixtures and an unused cupboard.

Jember Police Chief AKBP Bobby A. Condroputra and officials from the East Java Regional Police were also seen entering the mosque to monitor the crime scene investigation process by the combined team.

The Chairman of Masjid Raya Pesona’s management committee, Muhammad Fadil, was also present inside the mosque to stand ready to assist the Labfor and Jibom team from the East Java Regional Police in conducting the crime scene investigation.

A mysterious explosion occurred at a mosque in the Pesona Raya Regency residential area in Patrang Village, Jember Regency, East Java during evening taraweeh prayers on Monday (16 March) at approximately 19:30 WIB. The explosion resulted in no fatalities, however it caused structural damage to the mosque’s roof section and caused panic among the worshippers performing taraweeh prayers and residents of the surrounding residential area.

One worshipper was reported to have been taken to the Emergency Unit at dr Soebandi General Hospital due to suspected hearing loss following the powerful explosion.
