The Ministry of Public Works (PU) is currently working on the Bokwiped Bridge project in Pasuruan City, East Java. Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo stated that construction is targeted for completion between September and October 2026, ensuring the bridge is functional before the 2026 Christmas and New Year period. “The handling is actually quite fast, estimated at around 4-5 months. God willing, by Christmas and New Year 2026, it can be used and will be functional,” said Dody during an inspection on Sunday (17/05/2026).

The inspection was conducted to ensure the readiness of the national bridge replacement work, which aims to increase river flow capacity and support regional connectivity. During the visit, Dody explained that the construction of the Bokwedi Bridge involves raising the bridge’s elevation to anticipate river overflow during heavy rainfall in upstream areas. According to him, the narrowing and shallowing of the river are key factors causing water to overflow onto the roadway. “We must raise this bridge because the upstream rivers are starting to narrow and shallow. Consequently, when there is heavy rain upstream, wood is carried along by the water,” said the Democratic Party politician.

The replacement of the Bokwedi Bridge is being executed by the East Java-Bali National Road Implementation Office (BBPJN) through a 2025-2026 multi-year contract valued at Rp 11.6 billion. The scope of work includes the construction of borepile foundations, bridge abutments, the installation of a 30-metre steel structure, construction of the bridge floor slab, asphalt paving, and bridge pavements. The new bridge is designed to enhance safety and the smoothness of traffic flow in the Pasuruan City area.

In addition to upgrading the bridge structure, the Ministry of Public Works is also coordinating with PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) regarding the adjustment of railway track elevations near the site. This step is intended to ensure that river flow remains optimal when water levels rise and is not obstructed by surrounding infrastructure. “If the bridge is raised and the railway is raised, God willing, the water will not be trapped by the bridge or the railway,” Dody added. The construction of the Bokwedi Bridge is also expected to support the distribution of agricultural products, trade activities, and the tourism sector in the Pasuruan region and its surroundings.
