Bojong plant and compensation
Bojong plant and compensation
From Koran Tempo
State Minister for the Environment Rachmat Witoelar has said
opposition to the integrated waste processing plant in Bojong,
Cileungsi, Bogor, is due to a lack of communication with local
people regarding the facility.
He suggested that the Jakarta regional administration, the
plant management company, the Bogor council and the local
community meet to discuss the issue.
I agree with the minister's suggestion, but as far as the
company's business is concerned, which involves corporate profit,
the case should be solved not only by reaching certain agreements
but also by providing compensation to the community.
For residents, pollution-free guarantees and other such things
are not enough. What they need is compensation because life is
hard for them and the cost of living keeps getting higher.
Without such compensation, it will be impossible to bring
peace back to the area. Showing it appreciates and understands
the people's concerns and wishes by providing compensation is
more important than the amount of money itself.
