Bogus Motorcycle Seller in South Jakarta Nabbed, Posing as TV Station Employee
Police have dismantled a case of bogus motorcycle trading in the Mampang Prapatan area, South Jakarta. The fraud suspect, a man with the initials TL (34), was apprehended by police.
“Polsek Mampang has carried out the arrest for alleged criminal acts of fraud and document forgery,” said the Head of Polsek Mampang Prapatan, AKP Dian Purnomo, to reporters on Tuesday (7/4/2026).
The case was uncovered on Monday (6/4) afternoon after police received information from the public. The police then conducted an undercover operation and arrested the suspect.
“After placing an order, continuing communication via WhatsApp (WA), and arranging to meet at the location. Upon meeting at the location and during the handover of money, we immediately secured the suspect and evidence to Polsek Mampang for further processing,” he said.
Posing as a TV Employee and Forging Documents
The suspect pretended to be an employee of one television station to make the victim trust him. The suspect also forged vehicle documents for the motorcycle he intended to sell to the victim.
“He used the uniform of one private TV station to convince the victim that he was not a criminal,” he said.
“Furthermore, he used this motorcycle buying and selling modus operandi equipped with genuine-looking documents. However, based on interrogation and our checks and analysis, it was found that the motorcycle documents were allegedly fake,” he added.
The police are still developing the case, including investigating other involved parties. Police seized one Yamaha NMax motorcycle, one mobile phone, and Rp 2.4 million in cash.
The suspect has been designated as a suspect and detained. He is charged under Article 492 of the Criminal Code with a threat of 4 years imprisonment and category 5 fine, as well as Article 392 of the Criminal Code with a threat of 8 years imprisonment.
