Bogor's landslide-prone Batutulis road transformed into affordable city lights spot
Bogor - Batutulis Road, specifically on Saleh Danasasmita Street in South Bogor, has become a spot for enjoying city lights. The motorcycle access closed by the Bogor City Government due to landslide risk now serves as a hangout spot.
Unlike Jakarta’s city lights from tall buildings, Bogor’s illumination comes from residents’ lights across Batutulis in Cipaku and Ranggamekar.
Motorists and drivers park on the left shoulder of the road and sit on the pavement while enjoying snacks bought from vendors.
Six vendors sell coffee, sachet drinks, seblak, cuanki, and sekoteng, serving visitors in rotation.
Residents who have purchased drinks or food sit facing the city lights from houses across Batutulis.
The gentle breeze and view of residents’ lights are attractions for visitors.
This serves as an alternative to enjoying city lights without going to Jakarta or Bandung.
Dicky said Batutulis Road has advantages such as affordable angkringan prices and scenic views without needing to go to Puncak, Bogor.
‘Because here the angkringan is more wallet-friendly. Second, we can see city lights without having to go to Puncak,’ he said.
He added that Batutulis Road has a cool atmosphere and is not filled with passing vehicles, which differentiates it from Jakarta or Bandung.
‘Compared to Bandung and Jakarta which are metropolitan areas, here the atmosphere is really cool, and there aren’t too many cars or vehicles,’ he said.
Dicky said the evening view helps him unwind after a long day’s work.
‘It’s quite pleasant, many people are happy. After working all day, we need to see a view to refresh our minds,’ he said.
