Bogor worries over cash aid

BOGOR: Anticipating problems in the distribution of cash aid for the poor to help them cope with higher fuel prices, Bogor Regent Agus Utara Effendi told officials to watch out for middlemen who might try and take a cut of the money as commission.

"If any of the recipients do not receive the full Rp 300,000 in cash aid on Monday, the public should immediately report it to the police," the regent said on Friday.

The regency has listed 214,932 families who will receive the aid every three months. The administration distributed the fuel compensation cards on Friday, which the families can use beginning on Monday to obtain their money from the nearest post office.

The head of the operational division at the Bogor Police, Comr. T. Irfan, said officers would provide security at the post offices and district administrative offices where cardholders can obtain the aid. -- JP
