Bogor Welcomes Heavy Rain After Prolonged Dry Spell

Rain fell across several areas of Bogor on Saturday evening (18/7/2026), starting around 8pm local time in Cibinong. The initial light drizzle quickly intensified into a heavy downpour lasting approximately an hour and a half until 9.30pm.

The region had experienced days without rain, leading to drought conditions and difficulties in accessing clean water. Local resident Radit expressed relief at the evening’s rainfall, noting the pleasant coolness it brought after a period of intense heat. He voiced hope that the rain would help alleviate the drought affecting several areas and ease the search for clean water.

Previously, the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) recorded that drought had affected 13 of the 40 sub-districts in Bogor Regency, West Java, impacting 42,691 residents across 12,735 families. The Head of Emergency and Logistics at BPBD Bogor Regency, M Adam Hamdani, stated on Thursday (16/7/2026) that the drought had spread across 29 villages, with Rancabungur being the most severely affected sub-district with six villages impacted.

Adam noted that the drought began in early June. BPBD teams have been distributing clean water since 10 June, delivering an average of 5,000 to 8,000 litres per trip to 74 distribution points, totalling 350,000 litres of clean water sent to the affected areas.
