JAKARTA (JP): An executive of the natural disaster prevention
coordination team (PBA) has disclosed that 55 villages in Bogor,
60 kilometers south of here, are prone to natural calamities.
According to Pupung Purnama, the 55 villages are susceptible
to frequent natural calamities such as floods, windstorms,
landslides and drought.
Pupung said the fragility of the topsoil and sedimentation of
waterways makes the area prone to landslides and floods. Rainfall
of more than 5,000 millimeters a year brings problems for the
villages.
