Bogor Transport Agency to Cull 1,780 Angkots Older Than 20 Years
The Bogor City Transport Agency (Dishub) has recorded that the number of urban transport vehicles (angkot) with a technical age exceeding 20 years has reached 1,780 units. These ageing minivans will be regulated in accordance with the Bogor Mayor’s Regulation on the limitation of angkot technical age.
“The current number is approximately 1,780 units, based on the latest data in the Transport Agency’s database as of May 2026. The 1,870 angkot are those aged over 20 years, while those under 20 years total around 830,” said Dody Wahyudin, Head of the Transport Division at the Bogor City Transport Agency, on Tuesday (16/6/2026).
“Yes, clearly the number of angkot under 20 years is smaller, only around 800, and that figure will continue to decrease every month as their age increases,” he added.
Dody noted that of the total 1,780 old angkot, an estimated 300 units are already out of service. However, their administrative records have not yet been revoked. “So the figure of 1,780 is based on the agency’s database, and nearly 300 of those are actually no longer operating or on the road. We are still waiting for the owners to surrender their vehicle supervision cards so we can deactivate them, aligning the real numbers with the database,” Dody explained.
Dody stated that these 1,780 old angkot will be regulated under the Mayor’s Regulation on the limitation of angkot technical age in Bogor City, which was signed yesterday. Currently, the process is in the socialisation stage for owners and drivers.
“The regulation was just signed yesterday, so we will proceed with socialisation first. While socialisation is ongoing, we will also wait for the Decree on the Enforcement Team. This team is a joint effort involving several regional working units, the police, Organda, KKU, Kesbangpol, and various other elements. Enforcement will follow after the socialisation period,” Dody said.
“We are also currently conducting an existing data collection to determine the real number of angkot on the road. The latest data shows around 300 angkot over 20 years old have already been reduced and are no longer operating,” he added.
It was previously reported that Bogor Mayor Didie A Rachim officially signed the regulation on the technical age limitation of angkot. Old angkot over 20 years of age are now formally prohibited from operating in Bogor City.
“Today we signed the Mayor’s Regulation on the limitation of the technical age of urban transport, accompanied by steps for direct restriction through joint operations, to ensure that urban transport vehicles over 20 years old are no longer allowed to operate in Bogor City,” said Dedie on Monday (15/6).
Dedie stated that limiting the operational age of angkot is part of an effort to reorganise transportation. This measure is a follow-up to public complaints regarding vehicle bunching and angkot stopping arbitrarily, known as ‘ngetem’.
“So the public’s hope is that there will be no more bunching of transport vehicles and no more arbitrary ‘ngetem’. Technically and officially, starting today we are implementing stricter restrictions,” said Dedie.
