Bogor to ban Bemo

Bogor to ban Bemo

JAKARTA (JP): The administration of Bogor, West Java, says it
will ban Bemo (three-wheeled passenger transport vehicles) from
operating in the town.

Kondo Sunarya, head of Bogor's office of the Land
Transportation and Traffic Control Agency, told Antara on
Wednesday that the administration had decided to follow Jakarta's
example in sweeping Bemo off its streets.

"So, don't try to move Bemo from Jakarta to Bogor, as we have
also decided to ban the vehicles from operating on the town's
roads," he said.

Earlier this month the Jakarta administration announced that
it will phase out all three-wheeled vehicles, including the
smaller Bajaj passenger vehicles. The administration said the
vehicles were no longer suitable for transporting passengers in
the capital city. (bas)
