Bogor Sacrificial Cow Escapes During Slaughter Attempt, Residents Call Fire Department
A sacrificial cow escaped during slaughter preparations, evading capture by residents in Babakan Madang, Bogor Regency. The fire department was called in. ‘This is an emergency rescue operation to evacuate a loose cow,’ said Yudi Santosa, Head of Bogor Regency Fire and Rescue Department, Thursday (27 May 2026). Yudi stated the sacrificial cow escaped because its tether broke unexpectedly. Residents attempted to recapture the fleeing cow in a plantation, but it became aggressive, prompting them to contact the fire department for assistance. ‘Residents who saw the cow escape tried to catch it, but it began leaping aggressively. They were concerned and feared the animal would rampage and attack nearby residents,’ Yudi said. ‘One of the Qurban committee members contacted the Bogor Regency Fire and Rescue Department to request assistance in evacuating the cow,’ he added. Yudi added that the evacuation was carried out carefully to prevent the cow from rampaging and injuring residents. The operation took approximately 50 minutes.
