Bogor Regent signs PSEL cooperation agreement to address waste emergency
The Regent of Bogor, West Java, Rudy Susmanto, signed a cooperation agreement for the Bogor Raya Waste-to-Energy Project (PSEL) as a concrete step to address the waste emergency in the region.
Rudy, in Cibinong on Wednesday, explained that the cooperation represents a strategic effort by the local government to introduce a modern and sustainable waste management system, while responding to the increasingly complex challenges of waste handling in the Greater Bogor area.
The signing took place in the presence of the Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs, Zulkifli Hasan, in Jakarta on Tuesday (21/4), involving the West Java Provincial Government, the Bogor City Government, and the private entity PT Weiming Nusantara Bogor New Energy.
Through this project, waste will not only be managed to reduce the burden on final disposal sites but also processed into environmentally friendly and economically valuable electricity.
Rudy Susmanto stated that the current issues facing Bogor Regency include not only flooding and landslides but also a waste emergency that must be addressed seriously and promptly.
He added that the cooperation is expected to bring a new face and a major leap forward in the future development direction of Bogor Regency.
“All problems must be handled and resolved; flooding must be addressed, waste must be managed, and development must continue,” he said.
Furthermore, he noted that the implementation of the Bogor Raya PSEL is also expected to reduce the burden on the Final Disposal Site (TPA) and minimise environmental pollution.
The project is also considered to provide direct benefits to the community through a cleaner environment, a more modern waste management system, and opportunities for creating new jobs in the clean energy sector.
“We are already in a waste emergency category. The evidence is that it is piling up and there is already a disaster,” said Coordinating Minister Zulkifli Hasan.
He explained that in line with the President’s instructions, by 2029 all non-household waste sources are expected to be resolved at their respective locations, from offices, markets, schools, restaurants, to other facilities.
According to him, regional heads must seriously oversee the programme to meet the timeline targets and maintain a steady supply of waste as raw material for processing.
“Therefore, I urge all regional heads to seriously oversee this programme, ensure the timeline targets are met, and maintain the sustainability of waste supply as raw material, so that incoming investments can also operate optimally,” he said.
