Bogor Regency (ANTARA) - Bogor Regent Rudy Susmanto explored historical traces in the Puncak area and discovered potential for educational tourism based on colonial relics in the Cisarua to Ciawi region.

Rudy in Bogor on Sunday stated that historical preservation is a strategic component in strengthening regional identity while opening opportunities for education-based tourism development in Bogor Regency.

The exploration was conducted through a historical expedition that revealed several important sites, from old graves of Dutch colonial heritage, historic houses from the 1930s, to traces of the glory of tea and quinine plantations.

“Historical preservation is an important part in shaping the identity of Bogor Regency. History is the root that strengthens our future development direction,” he said.

During the expedition, the grave of national figure Dr M Goenawan Parto Widigdo was also found, along with the family grave complex of Johannes van den Bosch, which is linked to the nation’s historical journey.

According to Rudy, the existence of these sites shows that Bogor Regency has a wealth of history that can be developed not only as cultural heritage but also as regional economic potential.

“This is a reminder that every heritage is a shared responsibility to be protected and appreciated,” he said.

He added that historical preservation also serves to maintain the collective memory of the community and as a learning medium for the younger generation to remain connected with the region’s noble values.

The Bogor Regency Government, continued Rudy, will encourage the development of educational and sustainable historical tourism, so that it can provide added value for the surrounding community.

In addition, this step is expected to strengthen Bogor Regency’s image as a developing area without leaving behind its historical roots.
