West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi (KDM) admits he has no plans to reopen the mine in West Bogor, even though Bogor Regent Rudy Susanto wishes for the mine to be reopened. He chose not to accept the Bogor Regent’s invitation to meet with mining businessmen. “First, opening a mine requires location permits under the authority of the provincial government. Second, the regent is good; he is fighting for the fate of the community working in the mining sector,” he said after attending an event by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology at the Aryaduta Hotel on Wednesday (6/5/2026). He noted that not all residents in West Bogor work in the mining sector. Dedi criticised certain parties who merely stand by the road and receive payments. Additionally, there are mining activists. Dedi views that the Bogor Regent has fulfilled his duty by conveying the aspirations desired by the community. He also sees that the struggle of the Bogor Regent and Deputy Regent regarding the mine has been very long. “The regent and deputy regent’s struggle has been very long; I see they have tried several times to meet me, then invited me to meet with the businessmen. But for now, I will not fulfil that meeting, because I am maintaining my personal integrity that all decisions are made based on the system,” he said. Dedi admits that the system is currently being managed, and the most important thing to consider is not only those working in the mining sector. However, also the community that frequently travels along Jalan Parung Panjang. “Our community must also be protected to feel comfortable when going to school, comfortable travelling to the office, comfortable going to the hospital, comfortable trading,” he stated. He mentioned that the number of such residents reaches tens of thousands and they have long endured prolonged suffering. In fact, many have died as victims of accidents. “Well, the consideration is, if it’s opened, where will the road go? Like it or not, it has to go through Parung Panjang again. If it goes through Parung Panjang again, once opened, the Parung Panjang residents will protest again, demonstrate again,” he said.
