Bogor Regency — Bogor Regent Rudy Susmanto led the planting of approximately 1,000 trees around Pakansari Stadium in Cibinong, Bogor Regency, West Java, on Wednesday, following a tornado that felled a number of trees and damaged the stadium building several days earlier.

The tree planting was carried out simultaneously around the perimeter of Pakansari Stadium, involving officials from the Bogor Regency Government, the Bogor Regency Regional Legislative Council (DPRD), the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI), the National Police (Polri), and other members of the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda).

Rudy Susmanto said the initiative represented the local government's commitment to preserving green open spaces whilst replacing trees felled by extreme weather.

"Several days ago, Pakansari Stadium was hit by a tornado and a number of trees fell. We share the same belief that trees are part of the earth's future," Rudy said after planting trees.

According to him, the Pakansari Stadium precinct and surrounding green spaces are a shared asset of the Bogor Regency community that must be maintained and cared for on a sustainable basis.

He expressed hope that the Pakansari Stadium area could be developed into one of the district's urban forests and serve as the lungs of Cibinong Sub-district, which is the capital of Bogor Regency.

"We hope Pakansari Stadium will become one of the urban forests we are preparing and serve as one of the lungs of Cibinong Sub-district, Bogor Regency," he said.

Rudy explained that the total number of trees planted during the activity reached approximately 1,000, with further additions planned in subsequent phases.

Previously, the local government had dealt with the tornado-felled trees by neutralising and clearing the affected areas.

"We are replacing the fallen trees with several trees at once, and we are also filling in locations where there were no plants yet. This is effectively a replanting effort," Rudy said.

The tree planting activity was also attended by representatives of the TNI, Polri, the Bogor Regency State Prosecutor's Office, the District Court, the Religious Court, as well as community organisations and all regional work units (SKPD), particularly from sub-districts in the vicinity of Cibinong.
