Bogor Regent Allows Street Vendors to Trade at Tegar Beriman Square with Conditions
Bogor Regent Rudy Susmanto has granted permission for street vendors to trade at night in the Tegar Beriman Square area, Cibinong, on the condition that they maintain cleanliness and order. “Essentially, trading is allowed from 6 p.m. to midnight. If there is a football watch party, please continue,” Rudy said during a dialogue with traders at Tegar Beriman Square, Bogor Regency, West Java, on Tuesday. He explained that vendors are permitted to operate from 6 p.m. to midnight Western Indonesia Time. However, the local government may extend operating hours during special events, such as communal football viewing sessions. According to Rudy, all traders must also be registered by the Trade and Industry Office and the Cooperatives and SMEs Office of Bogor Regency so that the government has a clear database for planning and providing coaching programmes. “So we know their names, their phone numbers, and what they sell. That way, if there are government programmes, these are the long-standing traders who have been here from the start,” he said. Furthermore, every trader is required to bring their own cleaning tools and rubbish bags. After trading, they must clean their area and help ensure the square is free of litter. Rudy stressed that the government is providing space for the community to earn a living, but traders must also take responsibility for maintaining public facilities. “The important thing is that people can earn a living, send their children to school, and buy rice for their families,” Rudy said. He wants Tegar Beriman Square to become a comfortable public space for families while also providing economic benefits to the community. Therefore, order, cleanliness, security, and parking management are also concerns for the local government. Rudy has requested that parking management in the area be coordinated with the Bogor Regency Transportation Office so that tariffs comply with regulations and no levies burden visitors. “Don’t let our good intentions, where the government is not seeking profit, be ruined by social media uproar over parking fees of Rp10,000 or Rp20,000. Don’t let that happen,” he said. In addition to providing trading space at Tegar Beriman Square, the Bogor Regency Government is also preparing new locations for street vendors, including one outside the Pakansari Stadium. Rudy hopes these locations can be arranged neatly and representatively so that the community still has space to earn an income without compromising the comfort of public facilities. Ahead of 17 August 2026, Rudy will also impose an additional requirement for traders at Tegar Beriman Square to wear Sundanese-style clothing or ornaments. “Men will wear pangsi and udeng. Even though Bogor is colourful, we must respect that Bogor is Sundanese. We will showcase Sundanese customs and culture,” he said. He hopes the combination of street vendor arrangement, area cleanliness, and strengthening Sundanese cultural identity will increase the appeal of Tegar Beriman Square for people from both within and outside Bogor Regency. “If Bogor is clean and the traders are friendly, wearing udeng and pangsi, people from Jakarta will come, people from Bandung will come, people from Sukabumi will come. You will be able to earn more, better livelihoods,” Rudy said.
