Bogor Regency (ANTARA) - The Bogor Regency Government is reviewing traffic engineering on the Puncak tourist route in West Java to tackle congestion and improve safety for road users in the area.

Bogor Regency Secretary Ajat Rochmat Jatnika stated that the review follows instructions from Regent Rudy Susmanto to ensure traffic management in Puncak is not merely situational but more systematic and integrated.

“We are reviewing this traffic engineering—whether to use traffic lights, vehicle time scheduling, or other more effective schemes,” Ajat said after a meeting on organising the Puncak tourist route in Cisarua, Bogor, on Friday.

He explained that the review involves various parties, from the National Police Traffic Corps, Transportation Department, to technical agencies like Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR), to ensure policies align with on-ground conditions.

According to Ajat, traffic management on the Puncak Route has so far been dominated by situational schemes such as the one-way system, which needs refinement with a more comprehensive approach.

“The Puncak Route is still dark in some spots, so it needs support from public street lighting and appropriate traffic engineering,” he said.

Ajat added that the review results will serve as the basis for organising intersections on the Puncak Route, including the potential installation of traffic lights at certain points.

He mentioned several intersections of concern, such as Gadog Intersection, Pasir Muncang, Pasir Angin, Megamendung-Cipayung, Hankam, Cisarua Market, and the Taman Safari area.

Furthermore, the Bogor Regency Government will coordinate with the central government because parts of the roads in the area are classified as national roads.

“Coordination with the Ministry of Public Works and the Ministry of Transportation must be carried out, as this involves cross-agency authority,” he said.

In addition to traffic engineering, the local government is also promoting the opening of alternative routes to reduce the vehicle load on the Puncak Route.

Ajat revealed that one plan to be pursued is opening access from Pasir Muncang to Sukagalih and Citeko as a new alternative route.

He emphasised that the traffic engineering review is part of the local government’s broader efforts to comprehensively organise the Puncak area.

“The main point is that we want this organisation not to be partial, but comprehensive, so that congestion can be reduced and road user safety better guaranteed,” Ajat said.
