The Bogor Regency Government in West Java has decided to implement distance learning for two days, Monday (7/9) and Tuesday (8/9), taking into account the current conditions resulting from volcanic ash from Mount Anak Krakatau.

Bogor Regency Regional Secretary Ajat Rochmat Jatnika in Cibinong on Sunday evening said the decision was taken after the regional government once again reviewed developments in the Bogor Regency area.

“Looking at the current situation, Bogor Regency will implement distance learning on Monday and Tuesday,” said Ajat.

He said the Bogor Regency Government is preparing a circular as the basis for implementing the distance learning policy.

Ajat previously said distance learning was one option if volcanic ash exposure continued or conditions worsened again.

“Unless the dust is continuous. If the situation looks continuous, with dust coming constantly, then perhaps that option (WFH/distance learning) will be chosen,” he said.

The Bogor Regency Government on Sunday also instructed the cleaning of educational facilities and infrastructure, health facilities, and offices affected by the ash.

Based on preliminary reports received by Ajat, the impact of the volcanic ash was felt from the western part of Bogor to Cibinong, although the deposits were not very thick.

Spraying was carried out simultaneously by fire brigade units from West Bogor, Cibinong to East Bogor as an effort to reduce dust exposure in public facilities and spaces.

The Bogor Regency Government also urged the public to wear masks when doing activities outside the home and to avoid direct contact with volcanic ash.

The spread of volcanic ash resulting from the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau was observed reaching the Bogor area based on monitoring by the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) through RGB analysis of Himawari-9 Satellite Imagery on Sunday (6/9) at 05.00 WIB.
