Bogor Regency Government seeks to prevent students from joining 20 October demonstration
Bogor Regency (ANTARA) – The government of Bogor Regency, West Java, is taking steps to prevent students from joining a demonstration on Tuesday (20 October), following information about the possible mobilisation of crowds involving pupils.
Bambang Widodo Tawekal, head of the Bogor Regency Communications and Informatics Office, said in Cibinong on Monday that the local government, through its Education Office, had issued guidance urging all educational institutions to step up supervision of students’ activities.
“Students are urged to remain focused on their studies and not to take part in demonstrations that could disrupt security or endanger their safety,” Bambang said.
He explained that the guidance applies to pupils at primary and junior secondary schools, as well as Community Learning Centres (PKBM) and equivalent education programmes, in both state and private institutions.
In addition to seeking to prevent students from joining demonstrations, the Bogor Regency Government reminded schools to enforce a curfew for students from 9pm to 4am Western Indonesia Time (WIB).
The measure follows West Java Governor’s Circular Letter No. 51/Pa.03/Disdik, dated 23 May 2025, on implementing a curfew for students to foster the ‘Panca Waluya’ generation in West Java.
Bambang said students may still take part in religious or social activities in their neighbourhoods, provided their parents or guardians are aware.
The results of the monitoring will be reported to the head of the Bogor Regency Education Office as material for evaluating supervision at each educational institution.
He added that parental involvement is important in ensuring students are not influenced by provocation or invitations to take part in activities that could put their safety at risk.
